How to use a Web Browser

web browser is a software that allows you to find and view websites on the Internet.  There are many different web browsers, but some of the most common ones include Google ChromeInternet ExplorerSafari, and Mozilla Firefox. There are many more on our site with detailed information. Please see our main page

You can use many different browsers for navigating to different websites. You will find useful information about using tabbedbrowsing, creating bookmarks, and more below.

URLs and the address bar

Each website has a unique address, called a URL (short for Uniform Resource Locator).  When you type a URL into the browsers’ address bar and press Enter on your keyboard, the browser will load the page associated with that URL page.

Links are used to navigate the Websites. You will see a word or phrase on a website that’s blue or underlined in blue, you may also notice that your cursor changes into a hand icon whenever you hover over a link.  it’s called a  hyperlink, or link for short. Links may be attached to an image or a text. When you click a link, it will usually take you to a different web page in the same tab or in a different tab.

Navigation buttons

The Back, Forward and Home buttons allow you to move through websites you’ve recently viewed. The Refresh button will reload the current page. If a website stops working, you can use the Refresh button.

Tabbed browsing

Tabbed browsing a feature found in most Web browsers. Tabbed browsing is a form of Internet navigation that allows a user to browse multiple web pages in a single window. These additional pages are denoted by tabs at the top of the browser window. This feature is for users who do want to view multiple sites, but don’t want to have multiple browser windows open.  You can open links in a new tab as many links as you want, and they’ll stay in the same browser window instead of cluttering your screen with multiple windows.

When you click on Open in new tab, it will allow you open the link in a new tab as below:

Bookmarks and Bookmarks Bar

Bookmarks are a great way to save and organize specific websites so you can revisit them again and again. Simply locate and select the Star icon to bookmark the current website.

I recommend showing the bookmarks bar for easy access to your saved pages.

Downloading files and images

You can download files and images browsing in to websites. Clicking into download links will allow you save the file in to a location. Right click on a image to save the image to your desires location.

There are many more features on browsers. Each browser has its own unique features as well as similar features. Why not try different browsers and find your ideal browser.
